Final Interview Timeline and When to Follow Up if Need Be?

I could really use some advice on timing a follow up. I'm pretty stressed and anxious.

I interviewed for an AP clerk role. The process moved very quickly. Phone screen the Thursday before last, followed by an immediate request to come in the next morning for an in person interview with the hiring manager Friday before last. Then quickly moved to meeting two of my potential new coworkers which went well, then two days later a final interview with the Controller last Thursday.

I received very positive feedback. The controller mentioned they hoped to make a decision early to midweek this week. It's now Wednesday "mid week" at 4:07pm and since then… I haven’t heard anything.

No update. No “still deciding.” Just silence.

I really want this role and thought I was in strong consideration based on the feedback and speed of the interviews.

So I’m trying to figure out:

  • Is silence at this stage normal?
  • When would it be appropriate to follow up?
    • I'm assuming if/when I do, it's with the recruiter (not hiring manager)
  • Am I overthinking the timeline?

I’m not looking for sugarcoating. Just honest perspective here and best next steps if need be.

Thanks in advance!
