Co-op alternatives?

Has anyone ever graduated without going on co-op? I know it's technically not required, but if you don't, you need to take something else to fulfill some general requirement. What are the other options, has anyone taken them (for CS specifically), and how was it? I honestly despise my current co-op and every day wish I could quit, but don't wanna make a mistake and have to do something I'll hate more.
