What do people mean when they say they “found their faith”? What makes it believable to them if it wasn’t before?

I’m a young adult with autism and my current hyperfixation is religion and how people treat it. I’m not from a religious family, and I’ve never been religious myself. But I always hear people saying they found faith in a religion after going through hard times in life. If you’ve found faith, what is it that made you believe? what changed or clicked for you?
