[CA] Property management company backed out after tenants signed lease

Basically what the title says. My boyfriend and I signed a lease and paid a holding deposit for a unit and the next day we got an email saying “sorry the current tenant revoked their notice to vacate due to changing military orders and we are required to honor it.” (I know that the law states that the property management company has to let service members terminate their lease early but I couldn’t find info on this situation) I’m just wondering if there’s anything my boyfriend and I can do legally? Just to be clear, we had not received a copy of the lease agreement with the property management companies signatures, only my boyfriend and I had signed. So maybe we’re screwed? Any advice is appreciated.
