is it safe to walk around the city alone as a young woman?

im taking a bus from indiana to iowa and it has a two hour stop in chicago around midday. i am a young woman traveling alone with a big bag on my back. i will be dropped off at the chicago bus station and then back there to get the next bus, is the station a safe place, or is it shady? if i wanna go walk around the city is it safe in this area (greek town, little italy, and university village)?
