Starting pre reqs in senior year of college ….
I have a 3.8 GPA in an information systems degree and after 3 years and multiple internships and conferences I decided that I actually like Medicine and overall healthcare more than tech 🤦♀️. I kinda knew this when coming into school but I thought I would be fine working as a health data analyst or health informatics (given my introvert personality I was told that I would be better in non patient facing environments but I find I do like working with people especially children through my past experiences ) but now after experiencing this field through classes and internships I realize I want a patient facing role, to actually take care of the patients instead of managing the data. I didn’t know what kind of healthcare career I wanted so I didn’t take the pre reqs because I didn’t have a plan but now I’m thinking I should’ve went into it with no plan just to have them on my transcript as this has been a recurring thought for years, I guess I was just afraid. My dad also pushed me to do pharmacy but I hear bad things and I honestly thought that pharmacy was the only feasible option for me at the time, so I just left it alone.
Over the years, I’ve done extensive research on health careers and couldn’t decide but now I realize the only two I reside with is a PA or a Medical doctor. I’m still doing research on both, but I think before I graduate I should take biology 1 and 2, and gen chem 1 and orgo 1 then possibly do a post bacc or maybe even add a year to my undergrad 😔. Idk I feel so behind and defeated and second guessing everything does anyone have advice for me? Am I cooked? What should I do my senior year?
I do have a lot of work experience, leadership roles and volunteering but none are healthcare related, I will start volunteering at a hospital this summer along with my tech internship and go from there.
