Going to Mongolia in July during Naadam

Travel | Аялал

Hello all,

We are a married couple in our 40s, plan to go to Mongolia this coming July for 7-10 days. We already contacted several tour operators and most of them sound quite overpriced and the tours offered are basically spent in the van/jeep going from one point to another covering hundreds of kms every day. We envisioned more settled time, like staying in the yurt, then maybe going on a horse trek in the nearest area for a day or two, and of course visit some local village to see the festival. I'm sure this kind of setup should be possible.

So far we found this nomado_steppe Instagram account, it seems to be a family living quite far from the capital (Arkhangai province), it'll probably be around 6 hours by bus just to get from UB to the village next to them where they can finally pick us up. That's why we plan 2 days just for the commute (going there and back). They say it will be 100 USD per day per person for staying there and it covers everything like 3 meals and bed, horse riding is separate though, but not too expensive. And they agree to tag us along to see the festival.

My question to the group will be is whether this sounds like a good plan? Or maybe someone has any feedback about this specific business? Or maybe alternative suggestions for our preferred type of vacation? Basically we are going for landscapes and horses!

Thank you very much in advance.
