First year apprentice with some questions.
Hi all,
Have started an apprenticeship fitting and turning last year after leaving a chemical engineering job and had some questions as I start to get some time on the manual lathe.
With tools and tips what is the best way I can go about learning a general idea of what is available. What materials, geometry, speeds, cut depth/finishes etc.
My supervisor says I will learn this with time and experience however my learning style historically has been a lot more theoretical and informative to set baselines and understand the principle and learn from there onwards instead of watching and learning. I assume this is the norm for trades because of a lack of interest/understanding when reading theory (Most people chose to work with their hands for a reason.. and no for those who got offended im not calling everyone stupid it’s just preference). Yes I already know that theory means little to nothing when working in the real world but the concept will remain the same.
If anyone has any videos/books they like to reference or review I would love to hear. Thanks guys!
