Male Cat Vomiting

I have a 5-year-old male cat and I’m very concerned and unsure what to do next. His symptoms started on Sunday, when he vomited a few times. The first episode contained hair, so I assumed it was a hairball since occasional vomiting isn’t unusual for him. Later Sunday night and into Monday morning, he vomited bile. After that, he seemed okay for Monday and did not vomit.

Yesterday morning there was bile again, and when I came home from work he vomited and yowled loudly right beforehand, which is not typical for him. That’s what prompted me to take him to the emergency vet. I wasn’t sure if he was eating or drinking, and while he urinated once, he hasn’t had a bowel movement.

At the ER he received fluids and anti-nausea medication. Bloodwork showed low electrolytes and slightly elevated cholesterol.

Today he seems mostly okay, maybe a little tired, and isn’t very interested in food. When I got home around 3 p.m., I found a small puddle of bile, but he hasn’t vomited since.

I am really worried and don’t know what the best next step is. I also need to be mindful of cost because of the ER visit last night but want to make sure I’m doing what’s necessary to ensure he’s okay.
