Career burnout

Advice Needed

I have been in my current public school district for 4 years and each year, my caseload gets bigger and my responsibilities increase. This year in particular has been weighing heavy, we are consistently short staffed, behaviors are high, I have no support from upper admin. I could go on and on. This used to be my dream job, but now I wonder if I even want to be a bcba anymore.

I have an offer from another district. The population would be new to me (high-school), the salary is great, but the PTO is real low. They are saying that they offer great PTO because of summers off, february break, april break, christmas break, and all other holidays… but life happens outside of those breaks. I can’t just plan for me and my family to be sick only when school is already closed, not to mention the school events for my own kids, etc.

I’m intrigued by the opportunity, but I know it’s not my ideal job. It’s just likely better than where I am now, but 7 days of PTO just doesn’t seem like enough (I currently get 20, in addition to all school breaks). What do other bcbas in public schools get? Help me figure this out before I go bury myself in the hole of a career i’ve chosen for myself.
