Thoughts I have now that I'm on the other side of pregnancy that NO ONE talks about

Graduation!

I just had my baby a few weeks ago and I'm sitting here thinking about how the whole pregnancy went and I wanted to share some of my random thoughts and findings about things I NEVER see anyone talk about.

  1. Pregnancy emotionally blunted me. I hear a lot about horomones intensifying your mood, but I now know that mine was just completely turned off. I was listening to music a minute ago and I could really feel it like I used to. I feel sexual desire again. I feel like I see the world in color again. And I didn't have PPD, I literally just didn't feel much up or down, I was very chill and blunted right in the middle for 9 months. Never knew that was possible.
  2. Tongue and throat swelling. Sometimes I felt like my tongue didn't even fit in my mouth and EVERY TIME I drank anything, I would choke and cough on the second sip. Everything else swelled up like a balloon, so I don't see why those parts wouldn't also, but I just didn't expect it.
  3. My pregnancy face went away about a week and a half in. And thank God for that because I literally did not recognize myself. Hang in there, ladies.
  4. Newborn tired is in fact easier than pregnancy tired. I didn't think that was possible, but here we are. The last month of pregnancy, I was literally getting 1 hour of sleep at a time and would lie awake for 2-3 hours after that. I was constantly peeing, my insane dreams were waking me up multiple times a night, I couldn't breathe, no position was comfortable, it was hell on Earth. At least now the sleep I get is actually restful, and if my husband takes the night shift to feed her I can easily get a 4-6 hour chunk of sleep for myself.
  5. The newborn stage and postpartum are not a guaranteed bad time. I've never seen anyone speak complimentary of either of these stages, but I'm here to say that I thought newborns were little demons that refused to sleep or eat, that I would absolutely get PPD/PPA/baby blues, and that my husband and I would be roommates for a long while. None of this has happened. My daughter is not a terror in the slightest, my emotions are more stable than they have literally ever been (as confirmed by the stats on my monthly assessments I do with my therapist), and while I still have to wait the full 6 weeks to do what I really wanna do, my husband and I are still very much in love and are doing... everything else. Oh AND my bleeding was never so bad that I needed anything more than a normal period pad. (I do still wear disposable underwear, but that's just out of sheer convenience at this point.) So ladies, PLEASE do not be afraid of postpartum, it can actually be such a wonderful time of renewal and relaxation in your life. Keep an open mind and don't fear the worst until it actually happens or you're wasting your energy.

So yeah, those are just a few things I was surprised by and never or almost never heard anyone talk about, so I thought I might! Was there anything you weren't expecting through pregnancy/postpartum? I'm interested to know
