My Read on HUSL Admissions

General

Ok so boom..

As HBCU alum i'm sure admin issues play a role lmao (laughing to keep from crying) but I think the real issue for long and inconsistent wait times is that applications are read at Dean Simmons' discretion. Based on what she said at one of the meetings, it's my understanding that she skims apps, decides which to pull (or auto deny for careless errors) and it THEN goes to committee. This would explain the varying anecdotes on here... there are people saying they got admitted relatively quickly (even close to the end of the cycle) and others who report radio silence for months. This also explains their notice of no longer using rolling admissions on their website:

"The Admissions Committee no longer uses a rolling admissions system. Completed application files are considered beginning in November. Candidates can expect an Admissions decision 6 to 12 weeks after their application has been marked as 'Review in Progress.' Accordingly, as an applicant, you are encouraged to submit your application as early as possible."

My read on the situation is that top and bottom tier candidates see quick movement and everyone else just has to be patient and see what happens. Also if I remember correctly she mentioned she may feel more inclined to quickly pull apps if she's seen consistent attendance in the meetings from the candidate.

Someone can correct me if i'm wrong but what prompted me to go down this rabbit hole is that I thought it was peculiar to say 'there's no rolling admissions' but also say 'submit early' in a single paragraph. I get the logic behind it but like it's all sort of contradictory especially with Dean Simmons' regular use of the word 'early' well into February lmao. Maybe she meant is early in their process as it pertains to the masses seeing movement? lmao idk it's all confusing.

The most recent email kinda confirms my suspicion:
-they review for completion in order: explains encouragement of early submission despite lack of rolling admissions.

-once in the pool of completed applications, she pulls them at will which is why there's a timeframe between review in progress and a decision but no projected timeframe between complete and review in progress.

TLDR; I think it's less workload issues and more Dean Simmons doing whatever she wants 😭

Thoughts?
