Analysis: Interesting RD 1 clash here and one that I actually think the Eels look surprisingly good value in. The Storm are the Storm, they have an unbelievable system and led by a top 2 coach of all time, very hard to argue with. BUT!, in my opinion, this is the weakest Storm side we have seem for quite a while. I'm worried about their depth, particularly in their backline and I bet you they wish they didn't let my pookie Grant Anderson go right about now. I also think their forward pack leaves a little to be desired. The Eels were a team I was extremely low in 2025 and deservedly so, had drama with Brown leaving, new coach, new system, changing pack. Regardless of that, they still showed some promise late in the season, good signs for 2026 under Jason Ryles IMO. They have recruited smartly, their forward pack can motor and their backline is fine, developing. Halves of Pezet/Moses will be solid. Ryles knows the Storm system extremely well and with the Lomax negotiations falling through after a big NO from Ryles, I think both sides will be up for this tonight. The Storm still have one of the best spines in the competition in Munster/Hughes/Grant and I am curious to see how Faalogo has developed behind Papunhuyzen, now getting his chance. Offensively, I think he will be unbelievable. He is as explosive as they come, he follows up line breaks that aren't his, he creates line breaks himself and his enthusiasm to get the ball is seriously impressive. Storm in 2025 were a centre/left based team, I think that was a result of Coates on left and Warbrick missing most of the year on the right, so maybe more balanced this year but regardless, Eels concede down the same side and with how solid Papunhuyzen looked targeting those edge plays, I find it really hard not to see Faalogo getting a try and at the price, I love it tonight.
Good luck and Gamble Responsibly! Long season ahead.
