now before someone tries to say this is me saying they shouldn’t do another rock/metal season, its not. Iron Maiden is in the top 3 headliners I want to see, and I would love a Green Day season. So do not hit me with that ad hominem. Thank you, Anyhow

Why does it feel like Harmonix is unwilling to do anything rock as a headliner? Because Metallica didn’t sell well, and there’s evidence for that.

I think we can all agree that Epic’s main priority with Festival is this: sell artist skins. Festival’s main revenue is skins, don’t think anyone will argue that. Songs and charting come second in epic’s mind

How does this relate to Metallica? They recently came back to the store 1-2 weeks ago (unsure of exact date). During their item shop rerun they didn’t break top 10. Not once. And before someone says “Well that’s because people already bought it” Miku and Sabrina when they get brought back dominate best sellers. While we don’t have top 10 appearances for their season/launch. If they aren’t getting sales now, while other headliners top charts. Its safe to assume a similar story happened with their initial appearance (most likely getting in best sellers but then dropping out quickly)

Unfortunately Fortnite’s playerbase is way more drawn to artists of their generation. Miku, Sabrina, Gorillaz (they stayed in top 10 for nearly 2 weeks straight) etc. And this generation doesn’t have a lot of rock/metal bands that they would be interested in. If skins don’t sell well, they won’t be inclined to do more later especially with how much they did for metallica

Now while, again, this is NOT me saying we shouldn’t have more rock headliners or that we won’t ever receive another one (I think a rock headliner is coming this year). These sales figures point to why Festival won’t ever be a rhythm game focused on rock/metal. It doesn’t sell well like pop and other genres. Especially for the playerbase that Fortnite has

Unfortunate really

Why Harmonix is scared to do another rock/metal season
