Sick pigeon ?

So it’s around February and my pet pigeon whose about 5-6 months old started molting and they were picking out feathers long story short one morning their chirp sounded like a deep gurgle or almost muffled I’m worried that they are sick or got a feather in their throat but it also might be hormones from what I’ve seen online but i don’t want to go to a vet to just find out my bird is super horny (they look healthy and are eating fine and wiggle and flap a lot whenever my hand goes near)
