stuck between picking between colleges...

College Questions

Hi everyone! I’m honestly pretty conflicted right now and could use some outside perspective.

I’m deciding between colgate and davidson, both amazing schools: Strong academics/tight-knit communities/great finance outcomes/beautiful campuses.

My parents strongly prefer colgate cause they see it as more prestigious, stronger alum network, maybe better for long-term career placement (I’m thinking econ / poli sci, possibly consulting or IB)...more name recognition where we live.

At colgate, I worry about the social scene being pretty frat-heavy and whether I’d feel fully included if I don’t rush. I’ve heard mixed things about how open parties are and how much Greek life shapes campus culture.

With Davidson, I feel drawn to the smaller vibe and what seems like a slightly more inclusive social environment. I like the emphasis on the Honor Code and community feel. But then I worry: am I over-romanticizing it? Would I be giving up stronger recruiting pipelines?

My parents aren’t forcing me in a dramatic way, but they’re definitely making it clear they think Colgate is the “smarter” choice. I don’t want to disappoint them. At the same time, I’m the one living there for four years.

For anyone who’s attended either school, especially if you chose between them, how different do they actually feel day to day? How real is the Greek-life dominance at Colgate? How strong is Davidson for high finance / consulting?

I’d really appreciate honest takes. I’m trying to separate prestige anxiety from actual fit, and it’s harder than I expected!
