Best way to move clubs to a better team for 12 yo son? I know there are a lot of rules and such. Want to keep it on the up and up, but also want to move to a team that is more committed and has more all around talent.
What is the best way to go about moving clubs? I have a 12 yo who is pretty good. We feel like they've outgrown their team and are being held back on total development because half of their team just can't keep up. They play at the premier level but are towards the bottom. It's frustrating for my son to be playing with a team where only a few players are capable of playing good, team soccer.
So my question is, what is the best way to move to another club that is not a lateral move? Obviously, just showing up at tryouts is a crap shoot. Especially if the kid isn't physically dominant. And I don't believe you are allowed to contact other clubs and go to practice without current club approval, though I'm sure the current club would allow it; it would still cause unwanted drama.
So how does this work? How do you go about moving to a new club? Highlight video? Phone calls? Secret practices?
