AITAH for Commenting on FB Post about Dog Bite
We have a large traditionally "agreesive breed" dog. Not that she is aggressive or anything like that, but the breed is known to be and are stereotyped that way.
A few years ago we had a get together and my spouses friend's, bestfriend attended (we're all in the same friend/acquaintance group so some of us know each other better than others). They loved our dog, and loved how big she was. They did not have any pets prior to this, or dogs.
Couple months later it comes up in conversation they went and got a puppy of the same breed. We visited their house at one point and it was apparent they had never put a ounce of training into them. House was destroyed, didn't listen to a word they said, etc.
Flash forward to a birthday last summer. Everyone was enjoying the party at their place, kids outside in the canal out back, good time as usual. Until it wasn't. Their dog started to get pushy with some of the kids, growling, herding them, etc. and friends bestfriend wouldn't intervene other than shouting it's name from the porch once in a while.
I didn't want to make a scene so I walked over and started to get my kids out and into the house. As I'm helping my kid out of the water dog runs up to me, gets low, and starts growling. I push my kid back into the water and it lunges at my face, I put my hands up, and it grabs onto my hand. All the way to the bone in 2 fingers. 6 total punctures because it bit once and a millisecond later bit back down slightly over.
We got half-assed apologies and excuses on why it bit. It never happened before. Only had ever "nervous growled" at people. Maybe I smelled like food. Maybe it was playing. They'll put it up from now on. On and on. They offered to pay for medical bills but I never went to the doctor. It all healed on its own and I didn't want to be the person that got their dog impounded or make a scene. We never went back over there and haven't personally talked since.
Last month I'm scrolling facebook on a local page and see said dog. Friends bestfriend was giving it up because they didnt have "time to give it the attention it needs" and needed it gone asap.
I would hope friends bestfriend would tell whoever took it the dogs history. But with how it was handled and how they talked about the dog in the post, something told me they weren't going to. And if they gave this dog out and it mauled someone or a kid or something I'd feel guilty I didn't say something.
There was a lot of people on the post wanting the dog so I commented about what happened. The comments blew up and they deleted the post eventually.
Now it's caused the most amount of BS and most of the people in our friend group have pushed us out and won't talk to us. We used to all get together every few weeks and we've gotten no invites. No texts or calls. Completely shut out.
Spouse said I should have kept my mouth shut or talked with friends bestfriend one on one but I figured they'd just sweep it under the rug anyway.
AITAH? Should I have talked to them or should I just have minded my own business
