Happily engaged, but my biggest fear came true…
Moved around a lot as a kid. I’ve had friends, but as time progressed and we lived states away, we’ve fallen to simple Facebook interactions as the extent of our current contact. I don’t have a group of girlfriends like I dreamed of because of my constant upheaval and more than likely some emotional trauma I’m still rooting out. This became a source of anxiety for me because what if in the future, the man I married has tons of friends and I have… no one?
I (30F) just got engaged to the love of my life (31M). We are planning a fall wedding in 2027. However, he has 5 close friends including two brothers for his wedding party. I have my sister-in-law and his brother’s wife (both of whom I am fortunate to love and have in my life!)
He said he’s willing to just have his 2 brothers as groomsmen so it matches, but I know how important this is to him. I never dreamed of a wedding before I met him. On our second date, he told me he wanted a big wedding to celebrate with all his friends and family.
I absolutely want to make him happy, but I just feel so ashamed of the fact that I have no one in my life aside from two people to stand beside me.
I guess my question is… how weird is it for a bride to have no friends, but the groom has plenty? I am very much an introvert as well, so it hasn’t bugged me much until the wedding planning started.
I have a few friends I’ve met through my fiancé, but we’ve only hung out during a double date or in a group setting, not just us. Would it be weird to ask them to be in my bridal party? I don’t know the rules here. I don’t expect them to spend $$$ or go crazy, just to stand beside me and have a good time.
Thank you in advance!!
