Looking for some books to read for research; YA, urban fantasy, love triangle, fairies

I’m kicking around an idea for a YA romantasy based on Cherokee/Scottish (I’m Cherokee, don’t worry) folklore and set in Oklahoma around 2008 (that’s when/where I was a teenager). I’ve gotten folklore books to read, but I could use some literary examples since it’s been forever since I read those types of books!

First off, no ACOTAR. Too old (MC and love interest), not modern, not accurate folklore. I want the trans girl MC to be about 17 and her special friend to be close to that age too. On the love triangle, the MC will end up with the genderfluid fairy, but maintain friendship with the human boy.

Some other bits that would be a plus but are not a requirement: mental illness issues, family problems, ace spectrum, rural life vs cities, being biracial, “dark/evil” MCs
