Retirement w/ Unemployed ADHD Wife
Hello, this is my first time posting on reddit. Im 37 and my wife also 37 has a late diagnosis of ADHD. She hasnt been able to hold a job and always burn out from work.
Im trying to figure out if im on track for saving for retirement based on the worst case scenario of my wife not working due to her disability.
Current financial situation: -180k salary, government job -15 years vested in calpers classic pension, planning to retire in 27 years for 100% pension -no social security due to pension -125k in roth ira (fzrox, focpx, smh). I contribute max per year -Total of 125k in 401k/457. Currently, I've set contribution to a total of $16k per year into roth 457/roth 401k -Appx $350k(?) mortgage, 2.8% interest (my wife convinced me to buy a property at the beginning of covid, super lucky timing). Redfin estimates the property to be $850k atm. This would be paid off by the time i retire -Expenses are roughly $4800 per month excluding annual expenses/vacation (insurance, property tax, renewals, etc). The $4800 includes our mortgage and hoa ($2050) -No kids, no pets, car paid off (2010 corolla and 2003 avalon), and only do costco grocery shopping
I tried using different financial calculators but it goes weird once i put in pension numbers.
A few questions.
- How much does health insurance cost at retirement if i want the same type of coverage as my government health insurance. I have PPO 90% $150 deductible. I think my job pays $30k per year. I pay $250 per month
- Any other mandatory big expense items? (E.g. retirement community, end of life care, etc)
- At this current savings rate, is this sufficient to retire? Or do i need to max my roth 401k/roth 457 (it could go up to $47k combined)
Id like to continue having 2 international trips per year, 2 weeks long to japan
