Thinking of buying another

I have a ps2 slim from my childhood that came premodded with a matrix mod. I’m thinking of buying another ps2 just as a precautionary in case my original one dies. Which model should I get, how much should I pay for it(Canada). My og controller is also degrading bit by bit, I’ve heard people say they have had success with some sort of adapter that allows them to use a ps4 controller with their ps2.
