AITAH For Answering My Boyfriend’s Questions and Saying I Feel Misunderstood? Please help an ADHD girl out
Hello, a little background info for why I am here today. I 27F am in a relationship with my boyfriend 28M. I have combination ADHD and am just trying to see if there is something I am missing here, this is my first long term relationship and I am really trying but always feel like I’m doing something wrong.
Situation 1: I was feeling down on a Saturday and got functional freeze and felt a little anxious so I was just laying in bed thinking about all the things I needed to do when Boyfriend comes in and asks me how I’m feeling (really sweet) I proceeded to explain that I have x,y and z to do and then I mentioned a task he had asked me to do while he was away because I am just listing things I have to do. Boyfriend then says “well you don’t have to do that right now” to which I said “I know but it is still something I have to do and it’s something expected of me and even the expectation of it is making me feel tense” he then says “why can I not say expect” and “why is this turning into a back and forth?”. At this point I am confused because I do not understand how me being asked how I am feeling turned into an argument and I say just that and was met with “you are putting stuff on me and you make me feel like I’m crazy for feeling this energy you out towards me” to which I just stared in more confusion because idk what he is talking about and I tell him “I do not feel like I can talk to you because you do not hear me” to then I am now being shouted at in frustration.
Situation 2: My boyfriend likes to say “we can do it this weekend” but then the weekends come and go and it does not get done. Tonight he brought up that he would do something that I asked him to do over a month ago and I said “yeah, I asked you to do that a while ago “ he says “I will add it to the things this weekend” to which I point out it is always the weekend even though he tells me he likes to relax on the weekends” he then starts to visibly get a little annoyed and asks me “what have I not gotten to on a weekend that just pops up in your mind?” I tell him the pictures we were supposed to hang like 4 different weekends now and he goes “why are you putting that on me, we are both supposed to be doing that” to which I said “I know but when I want to do it, you say we can just do it on the weekend but then we don’t do I am just pointing out because you asked and it’s something you dictate to the weekend” to which he responds “well then you can say something to me” as if that is not what I am doing right now and so I just got frustrated and said “I’m not sure why this is a big thing and I just was answering your question but the way you are acting makes me not want to tell you my perspective on anything” to which he said “you are always the victim, here we go again” and I said “you can barely ever hear what I am actually trying to say because if it has to do with anything not being perfect on your end you won’t have it” and now we are sitting in different rooms of the house with him thinking I just want to be a victim and me feeling like I’m trying to communicate but doing it wrong.
I honestly always leave feeling like the communication is my fault and I just want to know what I am missing that is upsetting him so much that he responds back to me this way. I am genuinely so confused how I’m getting on his nerves to where I think maybe my ADHD is causing me not to pick up on a cue or interpret something wrong idk. Please help!!!
