Are cameras safe with a noob boarder?

Im planning to go snowboarding in the near future. Planning to take an action camera with me, but is it safe for the camera if I have no boarding experience? Using an 360 x4, either strapped to helmet or the selfie stick. Just worried that the camera might break from falling or something, but I'd really want to get footage on my first trip. The helmet strap seems safer so both hands are free, but anyone have experience with how well the cam stays on the helmet? Recommendations for good helmet mounts?
