I’m afraid she’s traumatized
My 25 month old woke up yesterday and said she didn’t want to wear a diaper. She wanted underwear. I rolled with it since she’s been pottying here and there since she was 17 months. She had a stellar day: 3 accidents and 7 potties, including a poop!
I’d say half the time was from promoting and other half was from her going and sitting on it herself. She was filling up her sticker charts all day and cashing in her rewards.
Today, woke up at 5am (2 hours early) and was SUPER cranky since. Had the first accident and it was all downhill from there. Screaming every time the word potty was even mentioned. Had accidents all morning in either underwear or on the floor. Of course we kept clean ups neutral and boring. At this point I wasn’t sure if putting a diaper on again would be detrimental, so I let her rock naked from the waist down.
We went to the library and she said she had to potty. I take her and she gets into the bathroom and decides no. Ok no biggie, I get it. She holds it the whole way home and even the first few minutes that we get inside, and then pees in her underwear. Hysterical. I decided ok no more potty talk or prompting or anything. Just let her be half naked and if she goes she goes. All after she’s peeing on the floor and crying. She held her pee for almost 3 hours (she never goes that long) so I put a diaper on her just so she could let it go and she didn’t have to be uncomfortable. Cried getting the diaper back on. Even more hysterical when she peed in the diaper. Like absolutely beside herself. Didn’t want to wear one the rest of the night. Just woke up from her sleep and she was upset because she peed in her night diaper
I don’t even know how to proceed tomorrow. I think let her choose diaper or underwear and then just absolutely no pressure or push at all? I also am breastfeeding our 6 month old so it’s difficult to be on her 24/7. Seeing her so upset to pee in a diaper broke my heart. I feel like I did it to her.
