Husband won’t get evaluated for dementia

My husbands father had dementia and died from it at 78. My husband is 74. He is having a hard time remembering things that I have said multiple times during the day. He will ask what are we doing today. I’ll tell him and then he will forget. At first I thought he wasn’t listening. I put everything on the calendar. It’s as simple as saying “after our walk we need to go to the store to buy a birthday card for so and so”. Then he won’t remember about going to the store and then ask “why are we going.” This has been going on now for about 1&1/2 years. Just seems to be getting worse. He won’t take an evaluation because he doesn’t want be labeled. I have to have a better conversation with him about that. I told him that I heard there is medication that may slower the symptoms. I find myself tearing up a lot lately. I’m scared.
