Wartales Infinite Loading Screen issue in Co-op (and how we solved it)
This was an issue me and my friend encountered and couldn't fix in 2024-2025 too and It recently happened with our 3 man co-op campaign session. This time we were able to fix it. I thought it would help people so I will share all the steps we went through:
First we tried to figure out who couldn't load the game.
1- The host pressed load save and then kicked us from the lobby and started save solo. Then he succesfully loaded into the game. He moved around a bit and made a new save file.
2- Then he started inviting 1 more person and tried loading again till we found out which one of us couldn't load the game because 2 of us could start the game but 3rd person had an issue.
3- Finally we moved onto trying to fix the infinite loading issue:
We all updated our GPU drivers. Then used Nvidia Control Panel to configure maximum framerate during loading screen because my pc went up to 6k frames.
In Nvidia Control Panel:
-> Manage 3D Settings -> Max Frame Rate set to a custom value. (My monitor is 240hz, so i set it to 241) -> Enable g-sync and disable v-sync (can also be done ingame) if you like as well.
Then after we finished updating GPU settings and drivers:
- Go to steam library
- Right click on Wartales -> Properties -> General Tab -> Scroll down and Selected Launch Option -> If using default (Dx12) setting, try OpenGL and vice-versa.
If you are using an old pc and graphics card, opengl can help more. If you are using a new gpu, Dx12 is better people say on the internet.
After this launch the game again:
- Go to options
- Go to Graphics Tab
- Set display to borderless windowed
- Refresh rate whatever your pc can handle.
- V-sync disabled again.
- For the sake of fixing the game we chose lowest possible graphics and disabled almost everything.
- Only "Limit number of player's units displayed in the world" is enabled.
We then started the last bugged infinite loading save again and it was fixed. Then we moved around a bit, made a new save. Then changed our graphics options back to normal after we fixed the issue.
You can also optionally verify integrity of Wartales files by going to Steam Library -> Right click on Wartales -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify integrity of Game files
and also move the install folder to an SSD if you are using an HDD for more performance.
Final personal tip: increase animation speed to max in game for quicker gameplay sessions. Game takes too long otherwise (in my humble opinion)
Launch wartales -> Options -> General Tab -> Animation Speed slider to max.
If any of you solved this any other way, you can put them in the comments to help others. This is the only way I could ever solve this issue and save our campaign save lol. Take care
