People not understanding what agoraphobia is is making my life hell
Had agoraphobia when I was 11-14, didn’t leave the house, missed 2 years of school lol. CAMHS + medication lead to me recovering, fast forward to my final year of uni and im back at square 1. Back home with my mum, 23, no job, not graduated. I also have emetophobia and OCD, and a couple of physical issues (nothing major)
But anyway, I’m getting really frustrated and held back in my recovery from people not understanding what agoraphobia is. Leaving the house does not scare me (even though I very very very rarely leave), it’s being somewhere I cannot leave that scares me. The car journey to go anywhere is what bothers me more than being at the destination. Meant to be going to a town 30 minutes away to get some shelves, and I can’t do it. Mum keeps saying ‘you’re not even trying’ but I have been! I’ve been going round my hometown, in shops etc, and when my young nephews come over, I’ve been out of my room spending time with them.
If we went to a shop in my town I’d be absolutely fine. It’s the car journey and being so far away from home. I cannot do it.
She thinks I’m not making any progress, but I am. She doesn’t realise that things like showering regularly, eating my meals downstairs with her, being downstairs more is progress. I’m answering calls, answering the door- things I couldn’t do because it was a situation that could be difficult to escape
I’m just sick of it. I am trying, I really am
