Hot Take: Wrestling was better when it was just one show a week + PPV
The reason we remember this era so fondly is because they gave us all the story in one big show every week, and we had to wait around to speculate to see what would happen next.
The shows themselves were bigger, mattered more, and had less in-program advertising because they had to fit everyone who was selling merch into the episode.. so it was just drama after match after interview, over and over.
When they spread to 2 or 3 or 4 weekly shows, they put product placements where matches used to be, and.. I mean, I stopped watching a long time ago, but because when I come back, an average show is just Intro -> Recaps -> Ads -> Cody mic promo -> Ads -> Boring Card Match -> Ads -> Roman sitting the lockers -> In-show Ad featuring wrestler in fake interview -> Actual Ad.
And so on...
I miss wrestling, but I can't get locked in anymore. I might make it 2 months of watching consistently before quitting again.
I honestly think the scarcity gave it value.
