Choosing a receiver

Hi all, I’ve been listening to shortwave since my teens and i’m starting to really get back into it. i have a cheap little amazon radio that picks up SW but i would really like to upgrade to a dedicated receiver. one thing i want is to be able to mess around with different type of antenna styles and making my own antennas. I would also like to travel with it. is there a receiver that anyone could recommend? my budget is around 400-600$. thank you guys
