Quelbree vs Onyda?

Medication

My son is 5 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD when he was about 4.5, we started medication shortly after. He is currently on Quillivant XR and it works well, however it wears off SO fast. I give it to him before school, around 7, and by the time we are getting home from school (he goes to pre school so we are home by 11:20), I can tell it’s already wearing off. He gets a second dose when we get back, but sometimes I don’t give it to him as I don’t want to keep upping him with stimulants so young.

He has a doctor appointment next week and I really want to push for non stimulants for him. I believe the Quillivant affects his sleep as well, as he will commonly get up before 6am these days, when he used to sleep until 7-8. He also wakes up exhausted. Has anyone had success with a non stimulant over a stimulant medication?

His overall symptoms are just severe hyperactivity, he cannot pay attention, doesn’t listen (I very frequently am raising my voice these days after asking him to do things repeatedly. I’ll tell him for 10 minutes to get dressed and he just rambles on about random things / messes with stuff and doesn’t actually start getting dressed, and once he starts he will go onto something else in the middle of it - those kinds of things). He is a nice kid, but he just cannot stop or pay attention for the life of him. His friends will say things to me at play dates like “I want to talk to him but he’s just making these funny noises” and it breaks my heart. When he is doing something he shouldn’t I’ll ask him to stop countless times and it’s like I am talking to a wall. There are things we’ve told him he cannot do for years now, like hanging off of the baby gate, that he STILL does. I don’t want to dim his light but I just need him to learn how to slow down a bit, pay attention. I’m worried one day he will hurt his baby sister because he’ll just run around the house and throw himself to the ground / roll around on the floor right next to her. No matter how much outside time we give him, nugget play we do, etc etc. It’s just never enough for him and he is constantly go go go. He’ll hurt his brother while playing and just keep going and laughing because it’s like he doesn’t even realize something is wrong since he’s so into whatever they’re doing. I’m just struggling
