I found a Monstera on the street recently, and I’ve always wanted to propagate a plant. I didn’t want to cut up my own Monstera since it’s doing really well, so this felt like the perfect opportunity.

The plant didn’t look great, but it also wasn’t completely gone. Because I didn’t trust the soil it came in, I took the whole thing apart (it were five plants in one pot) and ended up with 13 cuttings. I made sure every cutting has at least one node with a growth point. I watched propagation videos and decided to root them in perlite. One cutting is in water because I ran out of perlite.

They’re currently in a bright room with a big 2×2 m window. The room gets sunlight for about half the day, but the cuttings are about 4 meters away from the window, so they never get direct sun.

I’m thinking about hanging a grow light from the ceiling above them. Would that be a good idea? Any recommendations for what type of grow light to get, and how far it should hang above cuttings?

I have experience caring for houseplants, but not much experience with propagating, so I’d love any general tips or feedback. Did I do anything wrong so far? Anything I should watch out for?

If you need more info, just let me know!
