Aitah Taught Me What I Was Missing

So, this happened a few months ago. I (17M) met Aitah online through a mutual gaming community. At first, she seemed like any other person — funny, sarcastic, always up for a challenge. We started chatting daily, playing games together, and eventually texting outside of the game. There was something about her that was hard to put into words. She didn’t just talk — she noticed. She remembered small details, like my favorite snack or the dumb joke I made days ago. Most people I knew would forget stuff like that, but Aitah didn’t. Over time, I realized I was looking forward to our conversations more than anything else. She had this way of making everything feel lighter, even when I was stressed or annoyed. I started thinking maybe I liked her… more than a friend. Then came the day she told me something that completely flipped my perspective. She said, “You know, I like you, but I can’t be around people who make me feel less than I am.” At first, I didn’t get it. I thought I hadn’t done anything. But the truth is, she had been hinting at needing space, needing people in her life who valued her the way she deserved. It hit me hard because I realized I had been taking her presence for granted. I thought having her in my life meant I could just enjoy it without effort. But she wasn’t just anyone — Aitah was someone rare. We didn’t end badly. We just… paused. It’s weird. Sometimes I feel like reaching out, but I also respect her space. I’ve learned that some people come into your life not to stay forever but to remind you what it feels like to truly care about someone.
