Changing The Elite Four soundtrack in Fire Red And Leafgreen on one issue kind of takes away a neat charm on the use of soundtrack of Red, Blue And Yellow for Elite Four fights there
A little confusing yet hear me out:
Red, Blue And Yellow used the standard trainer fight music for Fights 1, 2 and 3 at the Indigo Plateau. Seems fine for the start as those fights use high level teams and your skills get put to the test. You’re at this point feeling as if you’re just fighting high level trainers. Nothing too serious yet.
Yet once Lance enters the picture and fight 4 engages, now the game changes to the Gym leader tune and your adrenaline kicks in! This it in your mind, a final climax of all your determination laying on the line and you’re fighting a type you barely had access to outside the Safari Zone! Of course you know once you finish him from Lance’s speech is that it’s not over and now your rival is your true final opponent.
My issue on fire red and leaf green changing the elite four sound track? One simple change: ALL OF THE ELITE 4 USES THE GYM LEADER MUSIC. Outside your rival of course that uses his own custom theme.
Now the Advance remakes doing this for me sort of sucks the momentum of the charm of the Gameboy games using soundtrack on Elite Four. See a gym leader battle in the pre Elite 4 game is a huge deal since it’s a culmination of your skills at a specific point in a city and a gym battle theme heightened your senses giving you an on edge feeling if your training is paying off. By slapping the gym leader battle theme on all of the Elite Four for the Gen 3 remakes of Gen 1, I feel it takes away that unique charm of the Gameboy original games using the standard trainer music for Lorelei, Bruno and Agatha before hitting you hard on Lance fighting you set to the gym leader fight track. Since on Advance, it feels like every Elite Four fight is the “final fight”.
Curious to know if anyone else feels this way as it’s something I’ve felt since the mid 2010’s coming from the view of an early 90’s fan growing up on the birth of Pokémon.
