How to move on from things that aren’t in your control
Salam brothers and sisters
I don’t want to expose myself too much in this post since I know it is wrong and I have repented and become a better person, learnt from mistakes I shouldn’t have made whilst engaging in a haram relationship I deeply regret, but I was extremely troubled in the mind and had low Iman back then. Alhamdulilah I am not like that now I am so happy about that.
Some things just aren’t in my control though, despite asking this person to take down photos of me/ names of my photo attached to theirs — they leave me on read and don’t take any action despite me saying it’s for my safety. It is not anything serious, but I wouldn’t want a family member or a potential partner to see into my past and question me, when I am so far detached from the person I was years ago. That person does not exist. I hate social media, I hate surveillance culture, I hate how it doesn’t let me escape from my past and reminds me of things I should have never committed.
I know I have repented and will continue to do so but it makes me feel so weak, like I’m fake and I have OCD so I spiral and think what if someone finds this out and connects the dots and holds me accountable for something that would make me sick now?
I know people will reply read Quran, which is the truth and I want to find a Quran that has Arabic translation and Arabic pronunciation so I can really learn, I want to be able to be so care free of this. I want to be the person that is unbothered by things, alas my anxiety and ocd makes it impossible ‘what if xyz happens?’ haunts me because everyone is on social media and it just sucks (family, friends, people out to get you). My accounts are private (now) but I can’t control what others post on their public profile and whether or not they’ll respect me asking them to take things down, some do some don’t. It’s like I’ve lived a double life and I’m trying to recover from it and I dislike how I used to be.
Is there anything specific the Quran can teach me? I’m not the most knowledgable, but the more I learn the stronger my Iman becomes and I’m so happy for it.
Thank you
