why do disabled people not want people to “pity” them
i realize the title sounds kinda rude if that’s the word but i don’t know how to better word it, i was playing life is strange and i was at the part where chloe was in a wheelchair and she said she doesn’t want any more people feeling sorry for her (not sure if that’s the exact wording) but it got me thinking. I hear disabled people say that often and im wondering why, like i understand it if you were born disabled and someone was like “im so sorry” that would be pretty shitty but if you were perfectly fine up until like 15 and then got into a car accident and became paralyzed wouldn’t you want people to feel bad for you? maybe i just like attention but i would want people to acknowledge how much it sucks and be extra nice to me and i wouldn’t consider it pitying
