NY Bar Docs Notary Public

Did any foreign lawyers who submitted their application docs not use a notary public when getting their forms signed? I'm in Australia and notary publics charge $200+ per document, so wondering if anyone's been successful using a JP or other free service.

The form does say if "the attesting officer is not a notary public, attach a certificate of the attesting officer’s authority to attest to or witness the signature of the affiant in the jurisdiction." But again, would be great to hear if anyone had success going this route.
