But what about the good stuff?
Hi, I'm new to the community, but the idea of cutting off contact with my mother is something that has been on my mind for many years. Recently, there has been a rather dramatic development in our relationship, and after a major argument, I have taken steps to completely detach myself from her, especially financially. I now feel that I am at a crossroads where cutting off contact is a possibility, but when I think back on things, I cannot ignore all the times she has been there, supported me, and been kind.
On the other hand, the emotional neglect that has been prevalent except when I am in crisis is the reason why I want to cut off contact. She is a world champion at making me feel small and making me feel like the worst person in the world. My childhood feels like a patchwork quilt of trauma, partly caused by her hand, which has shaped so many of the problems I have today.
Still, I can't get away from all the good things and all the times I've been so happy to have her in my life. I'm so confused, and these conflicting feelings don't seem to make sense.
Does anyone have similar experiences and can offer some advice?
Thanks ♥️
