Is it true germans pay like 8% of income to the church?

I readed somewhere that germans pay 8-9% as extra tax to fund churches and their activities. Obviously this is only for church members, but then i also read that anyone who is baptised in Germany automatically became church member. I personally think that this is crazy as fuck
