Should I mention I need funding/scholarship in the first contact with a supervisor?

This sub has been an amazing help in getting the direct information from people in the weeds. Feeling grateful for you all.

The title is the ask. But in general, is it better to get it out of the way from the beginning or wait till the supervisor responds positively to my profile to ask for funding?
