How to Remember Study Notes Faster for Exams
**I used to study for 6 hours and still blank out in exams. Here's what I was doing wrong.**
Honestly embarrassing to admit but I would sit at my desk for hours, re-read my notes, feel super confident... and then forget everything the moment I saw the question paper.
Turns out I wasn't actually *studying*. I was just staring at words.
Here's what actually changed things for me:
**1. Stop re-reading. Start recalling.**
Close your notes. Grab a blank page. Write down everything you remember.
That uncomfortable feeling when you can't remember stuff? That's your brain actually learning. Re-reading feels productive but it's basically just fooling yourself.
**2. Space it out — even by just a day**
I used to cram everything the night before. Remembered it for the exam, forgot it in a week.
Now I review something after 1 day → 3 days → 1 week. Anki (free, works on browser and phone) does this scheduling automatically and it's kind of addictive once you get into it.
**3. Stop making notes. Make categories.**
If you have 25 random facts to memorize, your brain has nowhere to hold them.
Group them into 4-5 themes. Suddenly it feels like 5 things instead of 25. Game changer.
**4. Explain it out loud like you're teaching a 10 year old**
This one feels dumb until you try it. The moment you stumble and go "uh... so basically..." — that's exactly the gap in your understanding.
No notes. Just talk. You'll find out real fast what you actually know.
**5. Make it weird**
Seriously. The more ridiculous the mental image, the better it sticks. Your brain is terrible at remembering plain facts but amazing at remembering weird stories.
Link new concepts to something absurd. Thank me later.
I know this sounds like basic stuff but I genuinely wish someone had told me this in high school instead of just saying "study harder."
