[OPINION] What do you think about journal editors publishing their own work in their own journals?

Recently I noticed that an editor of a new high-profile poetry magazine in the UK (that does very loud promotion and has received tens of thousands of pounds in funding from the UK Arts Council) is publishing their own work in this own magazine. And on top of that, they nominated their own work from their journal for the Forward prize, a very prestigious U.K prize.

Personally I think this is beyond the pale, a real no-no, a fundamental faux pas, and just not the done thing at all. It signals a real lack of seriousness regarding the journal and the poet.

I'm curious to hear what other poets think about this kind of practice. Totally fine? Or a transgression of generally accepted "rules"?
