Itinerary Check - North Japan Sakura Trip

Advice

Hi, Planning a Japan trip mainly to catch late cherry blossoms, so we’re heading further north than the typical itinerary. We’ll mostly be traveling by Shinkansen and trains towards north and taking a flight from Sapporo to Tokyo for the last days there.

• Yamagata (2 nights) – Yamadera / Risshaku-ji Temple, Ginzan Onsen

• Hirosaki / Aomori (2 nights) – Hirosaki Park sakura, Neputa Village, Takayama Inari Shrine

• Hakodate (2 nights) – Goryokaku Park cherry blossoms, Mt. Hakodate night view, Red Brick Warehouse

• Sapporo (2 nights) – Odori Park, Susukino, day trip to Otaru

• Tokyo (few days) – general sightseeing

Route roughly:

Tokyo → Yamagata → Hirosaki → Hakodate → Sapporo → Tokyo

Questions:

• Does this pacing look reasonable or too much travel?

• Is this a good strategy for catching late sakura in Aomori/Hokkaido?

• Any must-see spring spots in these areas we should add?

• For this route, would a JR Pass make sense or better to buy tickets individually?

Would appreciate any suggestions, thank you 😊
