€1,200 quote for “replace all sensors” — is this normal after repair?

Discussion

Hi all,

I own a 2023 Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI (150 hp) with about 100,000 km. About a month ago, the car came back from a mechanic/body shop after a front-end collision repair. The damage was mostly cosmetic, but the front sensors stopped working after the accident. The car was still drivable.

We don’t drive the Superb that often (I have a company car — Fiat Doblo), and my wife hasn’t been using it much since we had a baby in December and she’s on maternity leave.

About a week after the car came back from the repair, I started getting intermittent issues:

  • parking sensors (front/rear) acting up
  • automatic/emergency braking unavailable
  • rear camera sometimes not working
  • lane assist unavailable so cruise control The weird part is that these features work sometimes, then fail again.

I booked diagnostics with the same shop and dropped the car off last Friday. They called me and said they want to replace all sensors and do some additional work, with a total estimate of around €1,200.

Has anyone had similar issues on a Superb (or VAG cars) after a repair? Does this sound like bad timing / normal failure, or could it point to something done incorrectly during the repair (calibration, wiring, connector damage, etc.)?

Thanks in advance.
