Parents and kids on the running track

RANT

I like to run. It's one of my hobbies, and it helps me to de-stress and stay in shape. My partner does, too. We're lucky enough to live near a large park with a decent-sized running track. A lot of people in the area use it, as well as the park and the sports field. This is great- I'm happy to see so many people out having fun.

The problem is that, with the nice weather on its way, a lot of parents and their kids like to come and just... sort of hang out on the track. And I don't mean hanging out in the field or the park near the track. Nope. I mean right in the middle of the lap-running lane (the one that's a very different color and marked "runners only"). For some reason, it's more appealing than the park's grass, the field, the benches and bleachers, or the concrete path nearby. There's even a walking lane on the track, where they could reasonably stand around while people just walked around them at a safe speed. Instead, they bring their kids to congregate and play in the one place where people are going fast and will probably stomp on them by accident.

I usually give these people a look or a loud "excuse me!" as I zoom around them each time. Sometimes they get the hint. I just want to stop and scream "Sir or Madam, I am trying to outrun my inner demons in the one place that it's safe to zone out with my headphones in and do just that. I did NOT sign up for an obstacle course with your spawn as nature's little speedbumps!"
