Unpopular Opinion: "Ugly" text-only pages are out-converting my designed pages by like 20%. Anyone else seeing this?
I feel like I wasted a week designing a "perfect" landing page.
I ran a split test last week for a new lead magnet (PDF guide).
- Version A: High-end design, custom graphics, branded colors, "professional" look.
- Version B: Literally just a headline, 3 bullet points, and a big button on a white background. "Ugly" by designer standards.
The Result:
Version B (The Ugly One) had a 22% higher opt-in rate.
My theory is that the "design" actually looked like an ad, whereas the text page felt more like a personal letter or a document. People have ad blindness now.
Question for the group:
Are you guys seeing the same thing in your niches? Or does "design" still matter for high-ticket stuff? I feel like we overcomplicate this way too much.
