Why do people pretend they're interested and then ghost?

I'm trying to sell an Xbox Series S locally, and two people in a row have been messaging regularly, price agreed, pick up the next day, and then.... nothing. why!? Why don't people communicate they aren't interested anymore? it's so frustrating.
