Think i might have euvitus and I'm terrified
I'm a high schooler and i have jia, i was diagnosed when i was about 9 years old. My parents used to take me regularly to see my ophthalmologist and my rheumatologist but after covid i started having family issues and i eventually had to move away from them for my own safety in late 2023.
I've lived with my guardians now for 3 years and i haven't had any problems with my arthritis for years, but recently since the winter in my state was so bad this year i had a flare up for the first time in years. During this flarup about a week and a half in i noticed my eyes started to hurt. It was less like a pain on the front of my eyes and more like a ache behind them.
I worried about it for weeks telling my guardians i needed to be taken somewhere to get it looked at because i had looked up some things about euvitus online. (Horrible idea ik)
When i finally got back with my rheumatologist a week ago she said i don't have to start any new meds and at first we would try to keep with NSAIDs to see if i get better and i have a follow up appointment in april. She also said since I have eye pain to see an eye doctor and do a slit lamp exam.
My family made a eye doctor appointment for 3 weeks from now, and my eye pain became unnoticeable for a few days, but now, I've noticed my eyes become more red and that ache behind my eyes get slightly worse.
I talked to them and told them to reach out to my rheumatologist again and they simply told me to "wait" and that i was "worrying about it too much"
So i did literally the only thing i could think of and i called the ophthalmologist myself, i talked on the phone to a receptionist and she said since i have eye pain and i haven't been seen since 2019 they would need to see me, and they can definitely see me sooner than 3 weeks. She said they may even still be able to fit me in this week.
Did i make the right decision? The ophthalmologist is supposed to call my family back today and I'm still worried about my eyes. I heard that permanent damage from euvitus can occur quickly and I'm still terrified for my eyesight. I'm not sure what else i can do in the meantime since I'm not even sure i have this, but the pain in my eyes is extremely concerning and i feel like I'm the only one concerned about besides my friends and my partner.
