The real reason for the military operation and leadership change was for the US to control the oil. This was planned as part of the new war in Iran.

There is over 20% of the worlds oil that goes through the strait near Iran that has now been cutoff. Conviently, now that the US controls Venezuelan oil, there won't be a big impact. This war is planned to drag on for years and the current administration knows it.
