Why are we hated?

I went to a tournament with my first army (tau) and all 3 of my games the person on the other end of the table huffed and rolled their eyes when they saw my army. I knew tau hate was a thing through reddit and videos but it caught me off guard in real life. Fan someone explain the hate.
